The local area L'area locale
Pays d’Olmes: The area lies in the Ariége between the vineyards and sunflower growing area further north and the high Pyrénées further south and so shares the beauty of both. The area is rich in fortresses used by the Cathars during the Albigensian crusade, (Montsegur, Roquefixade, Puivert, Lordat and Foix.) and pre-historic caves (Mas d’Azil, Niaux, Lombrives etc.) and bastides, fortified villages built with a market place.
